Absent Adele Triumphs at BBC Music Awards

Alasdair McLellanShe wasn’t there to accept any of her awards, but Adele dominated the BBC Music Awards in London on Monday.

According to the BBC, she scored the Song of the Year and Album of the Year awards for, respectively, “Hello” and 25. She sent her friend, singer Robbie Williams, to accept the Album of the Year award in her place, and he delivered a message from her.

According to the London Evening Standard, Adele’s message was, “Thank you for this award, I feel a bit bad winning it when the album’s been out for so long. Nevertheless, you know I love you. Always have, and always will.”

Williams — a megastar in his native U.K. — went on to congratulate Adele, adding, “It’s an honor to accept this award on your behalf. It’s a beautiful album, and you’re an incredibly deserving winner. You’re also an amazing mum. She’s an incredible mum. The hardest working mum in show business. Love you, Adele!”

Last year, Adele also won two prizes at the BBC Music Awards, and didn’t attend either.
