Camila Cabello dishes on post-Fifth Harmony plans and girl talk with Taylor Swift
James WhiteCamila Cabello doesn’t seem to have any regrets about leaving Fifth Harmony behind to pursue her own solo career. In a new cover story with Seventeen, the singer admits it was tough to let her individuality shine while in the girl group.
“Fifth Harmony wasn’t the maximum expression of me individually,” she tells the mag. “My fans are really going to know me from the music I’m writing. My goal is to be brave and open up my soul.”
As for her former group mates, who are continuing Fifth Harmony as a foursome, Camila says she wishes them all the best and is looking forward to hearing what they do next.
In between working on new solo material, Camila also makes time for girl chats with her pal Taylor Swift.
“Taylor is always the person that I go to for boy advice,” she says. “The reason we became friends was purely because we think the same way about a lot of things: We’re both really sensitive and emotional when it comes to love. We love love, and we love writing songs about love.”
But surprisingly, she doesn’t name Taylor as her dream collaboration. Instead, that honor goes to someone else in Taylor’s inner circle: Ed Sheeran. “He’s incredible at putting love, emotion, and feeling into words,” she says. “…He always talks about how he loves making songs from the heart, and that’s something that I’ve pushed myself to do in my songwriting process, too.”
Camila’s debut solo album is expected later this year.
