Chainsmokers, Coldplay, Ellie Goulding to headline first European Global Citizen Festival

Frank ApollonioThe Global Citizen Festival, which has been taking place in the U.S. for a number of years, will stage its first European event in Hamburg, Germany on July 6. The headliners include The Chainsmokers and Coldplay — who just released a single together — as well as Ellie Goulding.

The free ticketed event will take place the night before the 2017 G20 Summit, where world leaders will meet to talk about their Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The concertgoers will urge the leaders to address education, health and development issues, as well as the refugee crisis. 9,000 free tickets will be distributed to fans who pledge activism.

EW reports that Ellie said of the event, “It is truly inspiring to see so many people come together and take action, participating in these essential conversations, and holding world leaders to account.”

The U.S. version of the festival will take place in New York City in September.
