DNCE Is Proud of Their Diverse Fanbase: It’s “Every Single Kind of Person…Everything You Can Imagine”

ABC/Image Group LATonight, DNCE will perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden: yet another major gig in a year that’s been filled with non-stop touring as the band worked to establish itself. The “Cake by the Ocean” hitmakers say they’ve been pleasantly surprised by how successful they’ve been at converting fans of their former projects to fans of what they’re doing now.

DNCE frontman Joe Jonas used to be part of The Jonas Brothers, of course, but bass player Cole Whittle used to be in a band called Semi Precious Weapons, which also had a dedicated following.   Cole says it’s been fun to see how they’ve won over their former fans with their new music.

“I think the incredible part is, maybe in the first few months, you could really differentiate, but [now] I think the fans that knew Jonas Brothers or Semi Precious Weapons or any of our things, they actually became DNCE fans,” Cole tells ABC Radio. “And so now they’re former ‘the other thing’ fans!”

As for new fans who came to DNCE with no prior knowledge of the band’s past, Cole says, “The people who had no idea who we were at all, they’re all mixing together and that’s something we pride ourselves on.”

“The DNCE audience is every single kind of person, young, old, everything you can imagine,” the bass player adds. “And everyone feels safe and they can be [them]selves.”

After DNCE finishes up their holiday shows and rings in 2017 live in New York’s Times Square on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, they’ll kick off their first major headlining tour.
