Hailee Steinfeld Says Success of “Starving” Is “Rewarding”

Republic RecordsHailee Steinfeld has released a number of singles since she branched out from acting into music, but she’s now got a bona fide smash on her hands with “Starving,” her collaboration with Zedd and the EDM duo Grey

“It’s so crazy that they are [connecting with it], period, to begin with,” Hailee tells ABC Radio. “The thought of that is just insane. Whenever you put something out that means something to you and you find that it means something to other people…there’s nothing more rewarding.”

As for why she thinks “Starving” — the chorus of which goes, “I didn’t know that I was starving ’til I tasted you” — has become so popular, she says she’s not sure.

“I don’t know — it tells a story and you can hear that story,” Hailee says. “It’s crazy that people are loving it.”

Of course, the song’s success may have something to do with the fact Zedd, Hailee’s collaborator on “Starving,” has a great track record when it comes to creating hits for young female pop stars.  He did it first with “Clarity” and Foxes.  Then he did “Stay the Night” with Hayley Williams, as well “Break Free,” with Ariana Grande, not to mention “I Want You to Know” with Selena Gomez.

By the way, “Starving” isn’t the only hit Hailee has on her hands now.  Her latest movie, Edge of Seventeen, just hit theaters, and it’s getting rave reviews.
