“It’s Crazy that We Have Our Own Christmas Special”: “A Pentatonix Christmas” Airs Tonight

Chris Haston/NBCAfter two best-selling Christmas albums and appearances on nearly every Christmas TV special, a capella group Pentatonix is finally getting their very own holiday show.  A Pentatonix Christmas airs tonight on NBC, and the group describes the experience as “unreal.”

“I remember like three or four years ago, we were fighting to get two or three minutes of TV time, and now we’re getting 60 minutes of prime-time television, and that’s unreal!” group member Scott Hoying tells ABC Radio. “And we’re just so happy and thankful that NBC has the faith in us that we can carry prime-time for an hour, and we are just hoping everyone loves it, and that it can just be in the background of every one’s Christmases.”

“We are just so excited about it,” adds group member Kirsten Maldonado. “It’s crazy that we have our own Christmas special. It’s gonna be so fun! There’s gonna be sketches, there’s gonna be behind-the-scenes stuff, there’s gonna be a lot of really cool collaborations and celebrity guests…Lots of singing. But what else could you expect?”

Those celebrity guests include Kelly Clarkson, country music legends Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire, and other surprises.

If you didn’t already think of Pentatonix as “that Christmas group,” this special will certainly cement their reputation as everyone’s favorite go-to holiday music-makers.  And Scott says he’s just fine with that.

“I mean, that’s the best holiday to be associated with!” he laughs. “Like, Christmas, that’s the happiest time of the year on the entire earth! And so the fact that we have such a big place in the whole Christmas scene is really exciting for us.”

Pentatonix’s current seasonal hit is their version of Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah,” and more holiday videos are planned.
