The singer, who’s been open about her own battle with the illness, as well as her body-image issues, is encouraging others to come forward as part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
“I had an eating disorder that threatened my life, and was very afraid to confront it,” she explained in a Twitter post Wednesday, her 30th birthday. “I got sicker and the whole world kept telling me how much better I looked. That’s why I realized I wanted to be a part of the solution.”
She also included a link for people to get screened to determine if they should seek professional help.
Kesha also narrates a video on her Facebook page urging people to get screened. “Eating disorders are a life-threatening illness that can affect anyone…eating disorders don’t discriminate,” she says.
The theme of this year’s for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is “it’s time to talk about it.”
