Miley Cyrus: From “Voice” Coach to Best Voice for Animals

Michael Muller/NBCMiley Cyrus has spent the past few months as a coach on The Voice, but now PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has awarded her a prize for being the “Best Voice for Animals.

The honor is part of the 11th Annual Libby Awards, with “libby” being short for “liberation,” as in “animal liberation.  They’re awarded annually by peta2, the youth division of PETA. Miley was named Best Voice for Animals because she uses her power on social media to promote animal issues and veganism.

In a statement, peta2 Senior Director Marta Molmberg says, “Today’s hottest stars don’t hesitate to take time out from judging a hit television show or dropping a highly anticipated album in order to speak up for animals. peta2 is recognizing Miley Cyrus…and other celebrities who are encouraging fans to eat vegan, shop cruelty-free and more.”

Coincidentally, Miley’s boyfriend/fiance Liam Hemsworth also was nominated for a Libby Award in the category of Hero of the Year for Animals, but he lost to Davey Havok, lead singer of the alternative rock band AFI.
