Pentatonix Notches Two Top 5 Albums Simultaneously

Tyler Golden/NBCThanks to their NBC special, a cappella group Pentatonix sees their current holiday release A Pentatonix Christmas rise to #2 on the chart, on a 22% sales increase.

In addition, the group’s previous holiday album, That’s Christmas to Me, is now at #5.  According to Billboard, that makes the group the first artist to chart two albums in the top five at the same time since Prince, following his death in April. David Bowie and Whitney Houston also accomplished that feat but, like Prince, they only did it after their deaths.

The last living artist to have two top 5 albums at the same time was Adele, in2012 following her Grammy sweep.  Adele’s 21 was #1, while her debut, 19, was at #4.
