Pentatonix Unwraps Christmas Gold, Debuts New Lego Video
RCA RecordsChristmas music sure pays off for Pentatonix.
The a cappella group’s current album, A Pentatonix Christmas, has just gone gold, for sales of 500,000 copies in the U.S., according to Billboard. It’s the group’s second gold-or-better album: the first, That’s Christmas to Me, is now close to two million in sales since its 2014 release.
A Pentatonix Christmas is just the 12th album this year to sell at least that many copies. Last year, 19 albums went gold. Currently, A Pentatonix Christmas is #3 on the Billboard album chart, while That’s Christmas to Me is #8. Their 2012 EP, PTXmas, is #68.
All the Pentatonix holiday releases are likely to experience a sales bump following the group’s first-ever Christmas special, which aired Wednesday night on NBC. During that special, the group debuted their latest holiday video, “Up on the Housetop,” which was created in partnership with Lego Systems and features the group members transformed into Lego figurines. The clip is also available in 360 degrees and virtual reality.
