“Rogue One” Star First Made Waves In a Katy Perry Video

Capitol Records/EMI Music North AmericaMexican actor Diego Luna currently is all over movie screens as Cassian Andor, one of the rebels in the blockbuster movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  But before he tried to steal the Death Star plans, he stole Katy Perry‘s heart in her 2010 video for her song “The One that Got Away.”

Luna tells People that prior to Rogue One, “more people [had] seen that video than the people that have seen all my other films together. It’s just insane.”  He admits he “didn’t know what I was stepping into” when he got the call to appear in the clip.

“This whole world of pop — it’s so intense and it got everywhere. I became ‘The Guy from the Video,’” he tells People. “In places where I used to just walk around without getting any attention, suddenly people were like, ‘Oh my God, the guy from the video!’”

In the video, which was partially narrated by rock icon Stevie Nicks, Katy, aged by makeup, plays a wealthy old woman trapped in what appears to be an unhappy marriage.  As she sadly recalls the past, we see young Katy with her artist boyfriend — that’s Diego — as they draw and paint, take photographs, crash a wedding and give each other homemade tattoos.   Eventually, we learn that the artist stormed out after he and Katy had a horrible fight, and then died when his car plunged off a cliff.

“The One that Got Away” was the sixth top-10 hit from Katy’s album Teenage Dream.
