Selena Gomez Says She’s Learning to Be “Aware” of the People Around Her
Image Group LA/ABC2016 was rough for Selena Gomez: She canceled her professional obligations so she could manage the anxiety, panic attacks and depression caused by the lupus she announced in 2015 that suffers with. Now that it’s a new year, Selena says she’s taking a good long look at the types of people she’s been hanging with and her relationships with them.
“I would say the biggest lesson that I’ve been learning since 2016 would definitely be awareness,” she says in an Instagram Live post. “I think it’s really important to be aware of like, the people that you’re surrounding yourself with, the people that are purposefully the ones you are spending time with.”
She then described the experience of having “pointless” interactions with her so-called friends.
“Sometimes we’ll go to dinner and we’ll leave and we’ll think, ‘That was such a pointless dinner. What did I learn from it? What will I gain from it? What was the point of it?’” she said. “And then other nights we’ll sit at the table for five hours with friends … [discussing] where you are in life…we’re constantly checking in with each other. Like, ‘Hey, are you good? Are you good?’”
Selena didn’t say which of her friends fall into the “pointless category.”
The singer supposedly is working on new music, but nothing has been confirmed.
