Sia, Adele, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Zayn, Coldplay Get Brit Awards Nominations
ABC/Fred LeeThe nominations for the 2017 Brit Awards — the British equivalent of the Grammys — have been announced, and Adele, Rihanna, Sia, and Bruno Mars are among the nominees.
Strangely, the only category Adele is nominated in is British Artist Video of the Year, for “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).” Rihanna is nominated for her collaboration with Calvin Harris — who’s Scottish — in the categories of British Single and British Video of the Year for “This Is What You Came For,” and she’s also up for International Female Solo Artist, along with Sia and Beyonce.
Bruno is up for International Male Solo Artist, and his competition includes Drake and The Weekend, while Twenty One Pilots are up for International Group, where their competition includes A Tribe Called Quest, the duo of Drake and Future, and Kings of Leon.
Coldplay is up for Best British Single for “Hymn for the Weekend,” where they’re up against Zayn, Calum Scott, Clean Bandit, and Little Mix, among others. Zayn is also up for British Video of the Year for “Pillowtalk.”
The Brits Icon Award will be presented to Robbie Williams, while the prestigious Critics’ Choice Award winner has already been announced: it’s blues singer Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, whose single “Human” is making a few inroads in the U.S. Previous winners of that award include Adele and Sam Smith.
Little Mix, The 1975, and Emeli Sande will perform at the Brit Awards, scheduled for February 22.
Michael Buble is supposed to host the show, but it’s unlikely he will, given that he’s put his career on hold to care for his son Noah, who was diagnosed with cancer last year.
