With “I Got You,” Bebe Rexha’s Finally Got Her Own Solo Hit

ABC/Lou RoccoEven if you don’t know Bebe Rexha‘s name, you know her voice and songs: she wrote tracks for Rihanna, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Selena Gomez, and sang on G-Eazy‘s  “Me, Myself & I,”  David Guetta‘s “Hey Mama,” and Martin Garrix‘s “In the Name of Love.”  But now, Bebe’s got her first hit under her own name — “I Got You” — and boy, is she thrilled.

“It’s so incredible, and it kinda feels surreal,” Bebe tells ABC Radio. “I’m so happy and I’m at a loss for words…I don’t know what else to say!”

“I Got You” is from Bebe’s debut album All Your Fault Pt. 1, due February 17. She says it felt great to finally write songs for herself. In the past, Bebe says, she’d give her songs to other artists because had no way of releasing them herself.

“I didn’t have a record deal, so where would I put it out, you know? Like, send it to my mom and burn it on CD?” she laughs. “So this year was strictly for me and it was the best feeling!”

But now that she’s a solo star, Bebe says she’ll keep writing for others.  After all, that’s how she got her big break.

“When I first was a part of  ‘The Monster,’ I really wanted to put it out under my name, but no record label thought it was good enough — until Eminem liked it,” she says of the #1 duet she co-wrote for Em and Rihanna.

“Now I see that that was such a blessing in disguise, and it got me to where I’m at today. So I will always, forever, write songs, and wherever they’re meant to be is where they’ll be.”

Bebe will kick off her first major headlining tour later this year.
